Ayatollah Seyyed Mohammad Ali Qazi Tabatabaei

On October 31, 1979, the prominent religious scholar, Ayatollah Seyyed Mohammad Ali Qazi Tabatabaei, was martyred by the Forqan terrorist outfit.
He was born in the city of Tabriz, northwestern Iran, and learned preliminary Islamic sciences under his father. Thereafter, he completed his advanced studies in seminaries under the prominent ulema, including the Father of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini (RA).
During his political struggles against the Shah’s despotic regime, he was imprisoned or banished to remote areas on several occasions. Following the victory of the Islamic Revolution, he was appointed as Imam Khomeini’s representative and the Friday Prayer leader of Tabriz, where he achieved martyrdom.
