Welfare Institutions and Services of the Astan Quds Razavi

The Welfare Institution of the Astan Qud Razavi has been established after the Islamic Revolution to help the deprived and poor people in various fields, including: finacial and non-financial aids granted to different classes of the society, granting clothes and stationery to students, feeding large numbers of students of schools of various parts of education office in Mashhad on the warm food of the Banquet Hall of Imam Reza (A.S.) during the sacred month of Ramadan and granting rice and other necessary ingredients for supplying the food to break the fast to the schools during this month.
Also, this institution which started its activities as the Aid Unit, at present, protects some needy families too. Furthermore, paying gratuitously about ten billion Rials in the shape of cash and in kind and giving interest free loan about three billion Rials to the deprived and poor people are some of the steps taken by this institution after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in order to remove public deprivation and help the needy.
Astan Quds Razavi after the victory of the glorious Islamic revolution has also accomplished the following projects like the reconstruction of Huwaizeh border town in the khuzestan province which was destroyed by the Baathist Iraqi army, renovation and expansion of the holy shrine of Imamzadeh Husain ibn Musa al-Kazim (A.S.), the younger brother of Imam Reza (A.S.) whose holy shrine is located in the Tabas city, Khorasan province; renovation and expansion of the mausoleum of martyred Ayatollah Modarres in Kashmar city, Khorasan province; construction of the Islamic seminary in Gunabad; construction of many mosques and libraries; providing land for the construction of schools and housing colonies for low-income groups; establishing hospitals and clinics in many cities, constructing connecting roads in under-developed areas; establishing hostels for school and college students in southern Khorasan; constructing educational complexes in the deprived areas of the Khorasan province; establishing two rest houses with all the facilities on the Deyhook and Bushruyeh highways; constructing schools in the earth-quake stricken areas in the southern Khorasan and helping various charity and cultural institutions rendering help and services to the poor and needy.
All these great efforts have been implemented according to the formulated programmes of Astan Quds Razavi under the efficient administration of Ayatollah Waiz Tabasi, the reverend chief custodian of Astan Quds Razavi and the high aspirations of those persons who had endowed and bequeathed their properties to the holy shrine of Imam Reza (A.S.).

Granting Social Services to the Deprived Classes of the Society
The deprived and paupers are the real benefactors the Islamic Revolution. The late Imam Khomeini (R.A.) recommended the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran to serve sincerely this class of society. The Astan Quds Razavi obeying this order of the late leader the Islamic Revolution and performing the benevolent desires of the dedicators, has granted noticeable services to the deprived people of Iran. This holy organization has taken steps to establish different service centers and institutions to expand its activities. In the following, each of these institutions and their activities have been briefly introduced.
Astan Quds Razavi Charity and Aid Organization
Beside the above-mentioned services the Astan Quds Razavi Charity and Aid Organization provides necessary help to the poor and needy in cash and kind. It also provides clothing and stationery to the poor school-going children and also night meal is provided to them in the holy month of Ramazan. Rice and other essential commodities as well as aid in cash and kind are provided to the deprived families which are under the care of this charity organization.
Reconstruction of Howaizeh City
The border city of Howaizeh which was demolished by the Iraqi aggressive soldiers, was constructed by Astan Quds Razavi in an area of about three hundred hectares in the shape of a large city containing 1800 residential units with complete equipment, and was ceded to government. Meanwhile the destroyed city of Howaizeh is fenced as the war document.
The Shrine of Imamzadeh Husain bin Kazem(A.S.)
This building was completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1978, and the Astan Quds Razavi has taken steps to reconstruct the mentioned building and erect a new Zarih (burial chamber) and also expand noticeably the courtyard of the mausoleum, so that, at present, it has converted into a very magnificent and noticeable place-whether from the religious point of view for the devotional purpose, or even as a special place for accommodating pilgrims temporarily who have set out for the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (A.S.).
The Mausoleum of Martyr Ayatullah Modarres
The mausoleum of this reverend martyr consuming an amount of over 1.5 billion Rials, was constructed by order of the late Imam Khomeini (R.A.) and was inaugurated by Ayatullah Khamenei-the Paramount Leader of the Islamic Revolution - in 1989. The infrastucture of the above mentioned building covers nine hundred square meters, and it has four main porticos. The mid portico on the mausoleum resembles a dome, and its facade is completely traditional and has been constructed by tile and brick. Also an equipped library, with appropriate facilities, has been constructed beside this mausoleum. The respected inhabitants of Kashmar and other people get benefit from this library.
It is worth mentioning that the custodianship of these two mausoleums (the mausoleums of Imam Musa al-Kazem's son (A.S.) in Tabas, and Martyr Modarres in Kashmar), has been committed to Ayatullah Wais Tabasi - the respected repesentative of Wali-Faqih (Paramout Leader) in the Khorasan province and the Grand Reverend Custodian of the Astan Quds Razavi - by order of the Paramount Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
The Development Organization of the Sacred Places founded in Kashmar and Tabas
The duties and official functions of this organization have been restricted to the vindication of the rights of the exdowments and dedicated properties in the region of Tabas as well as developing the holy shrine existing over there and repairing the tomb of martyr Modarres erected in Kashmar.
The Quds Razavi Housing and DevelopmentCorporation
This company's operations are limited to constructing residential units, and manufacturing materials in this regard as well as rendering contract services.
Gonabad Seminary
Establishing this seminary in one of the deprived areas of south of Khorasan is another constructional activities of the Astan Quds Razavi. The Gonabad seminary, with an infrastructure of about 2900 square meters, has been constructed in the shape of a two-storeyed building with 35 chambers and schools along with necessary services for Tollab (Students of the Islamic Seminaries).
Construction of Mosques
From the beginning of the victory of the Islamic revolution in Iran, the Astan Quds Razavi has established or constructed more than one hundred mosques in different regions of the Islamic Iran independently or jointly.
Constrution of Schools and Houses
After the victory of the Islamic Revolution, many of lands have been ceded to the Housing Foundation of the Islamic Revolution or Education Centres free of charge with an appropriate discount, in order to construct cheap residential units and educational centres.
Construction of Medical Projects
Some medical projects completed by the Astan Quds Razavi for the patient's convenience are as follows:
Constructing the fifty - bed hospital in Chenaran in and area of about 3000 square meters with a credit of about nine hundred million Rials being ceded to the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Training.
Expanding the Heart ward of Imam Reza (A.S.) Hospital.
Equipping several hospitals in Yazd and Kerman provinces.
Expanding and establishing many medical institutions in the city of Mashhad.
Constructing the huge complex of Imam Reza (A.S.) University with an equipped 320-bed hospital and polyclinic center.
Constructing motorways
Astan Quds Razavi has constructed motorways in the beginning of the main road of Mashhad to Sarakhs, and Mashhad to Baghcheh, and also constructing the seventh pieces of the railroad of Mashhad-Sarakhs have been some of the steps taken by Astan Quds Razavi.
Constructing cheap residential units in different regions of the holy city of Mashhad and Khorasan province, and ceding five thousand residential units to the deprived people in Razavi, Kinibist, Bildar and Maaloolin towns, and also ceding gratuituos lands to the needy are some of the other public charitable activities perfomed by the Astan Quds Razavi.
Paying gratuitously about ten billion Rials -in cash and in kind - and also giving intrest-free loan- 3 billion Rials- to the deprived and the needy are some of the important and effective steps taken by the Astan Quds Razavi after the victory of the Islamic Revolution to remove deprivation and help the needy.
The Organization of Construction and Developing South of Khorasan
This organization was established to eliminate deprivation from the southern region of Khorasan province. Hitherto several dormitories and educational centers have been constructed by this organization in the cities and regions of south of Khorasan. These buildings are ceded to the educational units, build residential colonies, supply and producing constructional materials, building roads and bridges, and providing necessary water for residents, and hitherto, the following projects have been completed by this organization:
Constructing of 253 residential units and apartments in Tabas, Ferdows, Eshgabad and Sarakhs cities.
Constructing of twelve eductional units and ceding them to the Education Office.

6: Educational Complex of Imam Reza (A.S.) in Bejestan.
7: Imam Reza (A.S.) School in the village of Se Qaleh in Sarayan.
8: The dining Hall of Imam Reza (A.S.) Dormitory in Ferdows city.
9: The dining Hall of Imam Reza (A.S.) Educational Complex in Tabas city.

It is worth mentioning that following steps taken to construct schools in the deprived areas of south of Khorasan, some other projects including reconstructing schools situated in the quake-stricken and southern regions of Khorasan province have also been completed by this organization and granted to the Education office of Khorasan province. Also in the field of constructing cultural units, this organization has constructed a mosque by the holy name of Imam Reza (A.S.) in the village of Roshnawand in Gonabad city, Ayatullah Shaykh Hashem-e-Qazwini library, Imam Reza (A.S.) hospital (Dar-ush-Shafa) and Dentistry polyclinic of Imam Reza (A.S.) in the holy city of Mashhad.
It is worth mentioning that the organization of Constructing and Developing South of Khorasan province, with constructing two rest houses situated in Dayhook Road and the other one in the entrance of Boshrooyeh city equipped with men's and women's mosques, qualitative public conveniences, recreative places fo children, appropriate green spaces, foodstuff shops, resting places for pilgrims and travellers - has taken effective steps for the traveller's comfort.The Development and Flourishing Organization of the South of Khorasan Province:
This Organization is active in constructional operation run in the south cities of Khorasan, as well as in constructing school buildings. Acts of public utility are also accomplished by this Organization through its revenues.
Astan Quds Razavi , the Largest School-Builder Organization in the Country. This was announced during the opening of Imam Reza (A.S) dormitories in Qayen and Gonabad cities – two southern cities of Khorasan province.
During special ceremonies , Imam Reza (A.S) dormitories – situated in Qayen and Gonabad cities , were separately put into operation . These dormitories have been constructed by the Company of Constructing and Developing South of Khorasan Province affiliated to Astan Quds Razavi .
According to this report , Friday Prayer Leaders and executive authorities of Gonabad and Qayen cities attended the ceremony . These dormitories were put into operation , and endowed to the Education Office by Astan Quds Razavi . The Deputy Custodian of A.Q.R delivered a speech , and stressed the importance of constructing educational units by this holy organization .
In a ceremony , held in Imam Reza (A.S) Dormitory placed in the city of Qayen ,Mr Karimi said : " Following the trip of the Supreme Leader to the southern cities of Khorasan province , and on account of his due attention to this matter , Astan Quds Razavi has taken fundamental steps to construct ,repair and renovate educational units" .
The Deputy Custodian ,pointing to the establishment of the Company of Constructing and Developing South of Khorasan Province by Astan Quds Razavi with the intention of granting necessary services to the people of this region , reminded that this organization has constructed several educational units and dormitories amounting at large to more than 50000 sq.metres - named after the glorious name of Imam Reza (A.S) -, with the intention of eliminating deprivation from the southern regions of Khorasan province , and establishing appropriate educational spaces for talented students of the region .
" Astan Quds Razavi has established 11 pre-university colleges and different schools in Mashhad .So far, more than 6000 students have registered in these educational units so far" . He added .
According to this report ,Mr .Maleki – the Chairman of Khorasan Education , announced here in this ceremony that Astan Quds Razavi is the largest organization in the country in the field of constructing schools, and so far , it has taken valuable steps in this field . He added : " This holy organization is exactly one of the most successful organizations in the country in the field of constructing schools, and educational units. Before the Islamic Revolution , this organization had not constructed any school in Khorasan province , whereas during the last five years , it has constructed more than 300 schools in this province" .
It is worth mentioning that Astan Quds Razavi has spent more than 2300000000 Rials in constructing Imam Reza (A.S) Dormitory for students in Qayen city , in an area of about 3600 sq.m with 1010 sq.metres built-up area , and Imam Reza (A.S) Dormitory for students in Gonabad city in an area of about 4600 sq.metres, with 1010 sq.m built-up area .
These dormitories are the fifteenth and sixteenth educational units constructed by Astan Quds Razavi . The montioned dormitories enjoy prayer room , kitchen , boarding house , consultation room and various educational facilities and services.
