Combat with the Self is a compilation of traditions (hadith) from the Holy Prophet (SAWA) and his Household (Ahl-ul-Bayt), classified under various subsections, all focussing on the subject of the self, its vices, temptations, strengths and weaknesses.
Based on the premise that one's own self is one's greatest enemy, the book elaborates on universally acknowledged issues of moral and ethical value from honesty and charity to humility and philanthropy. Al-Shaykh Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Hurr al-Amili collected these traditions from great canonical compilations such as al-Kafi and very specific works like Kitab al-Zuhd.
