Atheism’s Foundation Cracks

By: Dr. Muhammad Rajab Al-Bioumy, Egypt
The atheists, of whatever category, give themselves a high esteem they actually lack. In fact, they see themselves as great scholars and thinkers who have their own independent views, deep sightedness, and vast horizons. That is indeed what they believe of themselves. What ascertains such a feeling is when they deal with some people of narrow knowledge, so they begin boasting themselves. For their intellectual deficiency, they forget to compare themselves with the prominent scholars among the believers who have studies the scientific matters seriously and deeply. Such believing scholars are many but the atheists’ eyes are too blind to see them; the atheists cannot see what is miles and miles above their heads. The atheists only deal with the simple-minded and ignorant among the people with the aim of implanting doubt into their hearts and minds.
The atheists – you may call them the materialists, freethinkers, naturalists, etc. – do not believe except in only what they feel and see. That is why the atheists declare atheism depending on their limited abilities and deficient faculties. However, they have been strongly confronted by a group of fearless scholars who have been armed with the scientific evidence able to eliminate all doubts.
Some researchers in their serious writings analyze the attitudes and beliefs of the materialists. They say that the materialists believe that this world has but only one actual fact; that is, the external matters that can be seen, touched, and perceived by senses. In fact, the materialists do not believe in anything else, as, according to their own ideas and beliefs, other matters do not exist. In accordance with such beliefs, the human being is nothing but a uniform live body, and the soul, thus, is not a thing outside or inside the body, for it cannot be seen or touched. In reply to such ideas believed by the materialists, we can prove, with basic undeniable facts, the corruption and invalidity of such ideas. We say that the senses are deceitful as it happens in many times that they do not perceive things as they truly are.
Let us take the Sun as an example. Is there anything clearer to our eyes that the Sun? It is that shiny thing that circulates from the east to the west above our heads. We see the light moving with her from a place to another. This is the manner according to which our senses perceive the Sun. But, does the Sun circulate in reality and moves from one place to another? The actual facts, in which the materialists believe, affirm that the Earth is the one that circulates around the Sun and that the Sun stands still without circulation. Though the eye sees the Sun as a flat object, it is in fact a round object. Hereupon, if we do not have something clearer than the Sun, despite the fact that we see it in a way different from its actual reality, so how can we deny the existence of what is beyond the perception of the senses?!
In this relation, if we do not see the soul, this does not mean that the body is a uniform entity having no soul; rather, this means that sight alone is not the only proof of existence. In other words, every one of us has a different way of thinking that leads his/her bodily movements according to the way he/she wills. Also, the will is the outcome of such thinking. Through the soul, the little baby feels the meaning of mercy when seeing a smile on the face of his/her mother and thus he/she smiles back. The baby also feels the anger when he/she feels the harshness of any stranger, thus, he/she cries. Hence, the will, alone, can prove the existence of the spiritual world; the soul. It is a world totally different from the tangible world. That will is not exclusive to the world of humans but it can be felt in that of animals; for example, the animal runs, stops, eats and sleeps whenever it wills. Additionally, when an animal faces an obstacle, it tries to overcome it through thinking. For example, the animal finds an easy means when it wills to climb a tree; and when it wishes to get its food, it runs, jumps and turns until it gets its food. All this proves that each living being has its own different, independent soul.
As for the materialists’ claim that the brain oscillations are the real factors responsible for operating humans, it is a baseless idea. To prove, if the oscillations are the real alternative for the will, then the brave and the coward would be equal, as the sensible oscillations are of one level. In fact, the difference between the fearless and the coward lies in the soul. Moreover, if this is the way, we would be astonished to see a huge, muscular person showing ignoble fear in the face of danger, while see a thin, weak person showing bravery at the same situation. Hence, if the strength of oscillation is the motive behind courage and cowardice, the matter would be general for everyone; that is, every well-built person would be courageous while every weak person would be coward. This is not the actual case. Here, the material mass has nothing to do with this, for the true factor goes for the decisive will, the real outcome of the soul.
There is another unquestionable proof in this respect; namely, the soul exists. This proof can be witnessed in the bodily anesthetization. For more illustration, the anesthetic affects the soul not the body, for we see the scalpel of the surgeon doing its work on the body without the least feeling of pain by the patient. This is due to the fact that the anesthetic works on the soul and pushes it into a state of unconsciousness so the patient feels nothing. Thereupon, the soul is a thing completely independent from the body. Stated differently, the soul is something totally confined to the Creator’s knowledge.
After proving that the soul and the body are two different things, we find ourselves obliged to ask: Has that human entity been created without a creator? Is it reasonable for that body with its all different systems – digestive, reproductive and respiratory – and according to such a harmonious orderliness to exist aimlessly or randomly without being created by a mighty power?! After all that we have mentioned, if the atheists still on their atheism, let them continue the constructive, objective research and scientific investigation so that they might be able to believe the Words of Allah in which He, says:
{We shall soon show them Our signs in the horizons and in themselves till it is evident to them that it is the Truth. And does it not suffice as to your Lord that He is The Ever-Present Witness over everything?} [Fussilat (Expounded: 53]
