Divine Laws Ruling Human Life
Knowing that there are fixed divine laws ruling human life besides the laws that rule nature, calls for the uncovering of these laws first and obeying them second; because the outcome of these laws is the same in all times. Just as there is no exception to the laws of nature except for miracles, equally there is no exception to the divine laws dealing with humans except for miracles.
The divine law is defined as the unified way Allah treats his creatures with. The Qur'an has demonstrated examples of these laws by mentioning that the end of the hypocrites and those who make commotion in Medina is Allah’s urging of the Prophet to fight and expel them from it. The Qur'an regards this as Allah’s way of taking vengeance on the enemies of religion. Of interest in this verse, is the implication that Allah controls the Prophet’s heart urging him to fight the hypocrites in an instance and calling on him to be kind to believers in another.
Among other laws of the Qur'an is that whosoever turns away from his Lord won’t find a protector or a helper according to Allah’s saying, {Then found no protector or helper; the law of Allah, as in the past before}. So, he will live in intense isolation, for Allah is the best companion and whoso has found Him has found everything and whoso lost Him has lost everything.
Another divine law is that without an accompanying appropriate effort, the prayer will not have an effect, i.e. not answered. Prayer was not made to replace the natural cause, rather, to cause an effect (as being in need of mean people is objectionable), or to effect the appropriate cause (as no one affect the being but Allah), or to select the best cause (as noble people are the ones who are expected to be the benefactors) or for the betterment of the result (as there may be a benefit in the delay).
If Allah sees a benefit in breaking the laws of nature, He will do it for anyone he wishes whether he was a Prophet, like making the fire cool and safe for Abraham or the cleaving of the sea for Moses, or a Saint as in many examples from history. What we perceive as a miracle is the norm with Allah who makes the laws and is capable of inactivating them whenever He intends to. Believing in this takes away for good the feeling of despair from a believer.
It is also a divine law that subsistence comes by a certain amount and measure relative to man’s effort. He who is lazy in his work or neglects acquiring life skills or squanders must be prepared for the diminution of subsistence because of that. It is Allah’s will that matters should follow their natural course.
Among the divine laws, concerning the body is the affliction with illnesses of someone who does not know how to care for the soul’s beast (the body). Therefore, man will not benefit from his illness if it is caused by his neglect. He who does not follow health rules and dietary regulations will expose himself to disease, consequently causing him to miss many of the observances that need a sound body.
Another divine law concerning the spirit is that whosoever turns away from the remembrance of Allah will be afflicted with hardship and poverty according to Allah’s saying, {whosoever turns away from My remembrance, his shall be a life of narrowness}. So, you see him bored and depressed and not seeing any hope in life and for him life pleasures are like painkillers that make him forget what he is in of the isolation from the source of happiness in life. This problem gets worse with the advancement of age when life pleasures lose their effect on him while he still has not recognized the pleasure of the life to come.
Just as turning away from the remembrance of Allah is caused by stubbornness and disobedience, it is also caused by the voluntary retreat after the advance. Those who are marching on the way to Allah, namely, those who do not appreciate the gained privileges, whether actively or passively, will be deprived of them for a certain period as a punishment, know this principle.
Another divine law is the assigning of love, for a certain advantage, in the hearts of others to the one whom Allah loves. Here he is Abraham {Made some of (his) seed to dwell in a valley where is no sown land by (His) Holy House}, asking Allah to {Make hearts of men yearn towards them}. We saw how that desolate valley turn into a place of gathering of righteous people throughout history, in addition to the everlasting subsistence for that country because of Abraham’s prayer.
Another divine law is the blessing of man and his descendants in such a manner that he is not forgotten after death. Among the keys to this divine blessing is observing Allah in public and in private. After he prayed for his descendants to be loved and prosperous, Abraham concluded by saying, {Our Lord, You know what we keep secret and what we publish, from Allah nothing whatever is hidden in earth and heaven}. From this, we conclude that feeling the divine watching is the key to gaining blessings in both lives. Enough a blessing by Allah to Abraham is that the Seal of the Prophets is a descendant of his and that he was commanded to follow Abraham’s faith!
